4R Customs Take

We installed this liftgate panel on our 2005 Sport Edition V8 4Runner. Our main goal was to restore additional brake-light visibility after removing the factory spoiler to fit a rear ladder, which also removed the spoiler-mounted brake light.

The installation was somewhat tedious but fairly straightforward. The entire process took us approximately 90 minutes, including disassembly, transferring the factory components, routing the wiring, and reassembly.

Installation tip: Routing the wire up through the liftgate is the most tedious part of the installation. Removing the large interior electrical trim panel creates more working room. A dedicated wire fish or straightened metal coat hanger also makes routing the wire much easier.
